About the SMHA Resident Association
The SMHA Resident Association was formed in 2000 and has been serving resident interests with respect to issues and concerns between the Housing Authority and its residents that affect resident households and their living environment. The Association also works to connect residents and community leaders to find solutions with respect to public housing problems. The SMHA Resident Association hopes to:
- Inform residents of new policies issued by the Housing Authority
- Acquaint residents with new federal regulations concerning public housing
- Promote the mission and vision of the Association through our website, newsletters, meetings, resident surveys and other forms of communication
- Train and develop leaders to carry out the mission and vision of the Association
We provide regular monthly and annual membership events and site-based community promotions and publicity that enhance resident participation.
The Resident Association is the basis for grassroots support of SMHA residents. All Board officers are elected by the residents. The Resident Association is also governed through By Laws. This organizational chart shows how you connect to the Resident Association.
For Stark County, SMHA Resident Association members consist of:
- Senior Residents,
- Family Residents (including Scattered Sites),
- Apartments Buildings,
- Townhouse complexes, and
- Section 8 Residents.
