Communicating - Residents to Residents
It has been said, "...knowledge is power." This is a true maxim with regard to residents understanding their rights and responsibilities. However, residents have to understand before they can respond to any given issue. This is the reason we have Resident Association meetings. We want to equip you with knowledge and have a plan of action, all ready for you.
In addition to meetings, we know there are more ways to communicate with each other. Your Resident Association is working hard for you in the following ways to better convey information to you:
- Newsletters - We printed our first newsletter to inform you of our activities. We will continue, with the help of volunteers, to keep you in the loop on all news and events. We will always strive to put out our best and make our publications relevant to all residents. If it’s in the newsletter, it is because we thought you would be best served knowing the information.
- Informational Brochure - Our first brochure, explaining our mission, has been released to further explain our mission to you, in a succinct manner. If you’ve seen it, we sure would like to know what you think about where we are and where we are going.
- Survey - We have released our second survey in our newsletter to ask you for important feedback. We want to find out what issues are most important to you. But that will only happen if you send them in to us when we send one out to you.
- Door-to-Door - We have initiated plans through our Recruitment Committee to aggressively find motivated residents to “get involved” so they can find out what’s going on. Don’t be surprised if you see our Recruitment Committee in your neighborhood some day.
- Website - Given the fact that you are on this webpage, this is proof that you are receiving information about what we’re doing and where we’re going, as a Resident Association. We will continue to build this site as a resource and reference point for you and members of our consistency.
- Site-Based Meetings - In the past, our Resident Association has held our monthly meetings in different SMHA developments around the county. However, we stopped doing that for a time, based on the fact that, there was not enough coordination to have the Housing Authority open meeting areas. Therefore, when we have enough coordination to resume this practice, we will continue it.
- Underwriting Events - We have underwritten and sponsored several events this year that we hope will expand our ability to gather residents for specific purposes. For example, earlier this year we sponsored seminars on Parliamentary Procedure and Running Effective Meetings. We hoped to convey that we cared enough about the senior resident councils and site-based councils to provide quality instruction concerning organization and meeting effectiveness.
Over time, we hope to continue to serve our constituency with great leadership. We want to always invest in residents by adding value to their lives and hope that you consider becoming part of our team!
