Members In Action!
There are abundant opportunities for Resident Association members to exercise a voice for the betterment of community housing. And to have fun doing it! Look at all that has been accomplished on behalf of the SMHA Residents over the past year:
- We continued to represent resident concerns to the Housing Authority for resolution.
- Our first allotment of funding from HUD was acquired by negotiating and agreeing to a Memorandum of Understanding with the Housing Authority
- We opened our own savings and checking account at the SMHA Credit union
- We amended our bylaws
- We issued six pages of comments concerning the Five-Year and One-Year Plans that SMHA submits to HUD every year for approval
- We underwrote seminars by Melvin Gravely on Parliamentary Procedure and Running Effective Meetings for 14 resident leaders
- We presented each group association, represented at that seminar, with a complimentary copy of "A Complete Guide to Roberts Rules"
- We sponsored the 2004 SMHA Volunteer Appreciation Awards Dinner at the Carousel Dinner Theater, honoring over 100 residents
- We underwrote a trip to a national Resident Leadership Seminar in Detroit comprised of 11 resident association members and 3 staff members
- We launched our public website and built our database
- We published and mailed out our first newsletter
- We published our first promotional brochure
- We purchased necessary equipment to continue and expand our operations
